OCTOBER 2017

6:30PM – 7:30PM Classes

Lindy Hop On The Plains: Return Of The Jedi

Whitney and Huy had the privilege and honor of teaching at Auburn’s “Lindy Hop on the Plains 5!” It was such a positive experience that they’ve decided to take four of the best classes from the weekend and make them into a month long series for TNS.

Week 1: ʺI’ve Got the Power!ʺ
We’ll focus on putting power into your Lindy Hop while maintaining technique to provide comfort for both the lead and follow. Doing so can create interesting shapes, and a whole new level of texture.

Week 2: Tiger Pause
Learn how to use pauses and holds while creating stretch to add fun dynamics to your dancing. This form of tension and relaxation in our frames can be used as a vehicle for musicality.

Week 3: Attack of the Charleston
Tandem Charleston, Hand-to-Hand, Airplanes, Traveling Charleston…we’re going to touch on a little bit of each sub-genre. It will be an all out throw down.

Week 4: Gushy, gushy, sugar pushy (Sugar Push)
While often touted as one of the most versatile moves in Lindy Hop, it is also the most under appreciated basic move. This move is vital to a dancers progression and we want everyone in Huntsville to get this move under their belt.

Taught By: Huy & Whitney Huyhn

Continuing Ballroomin’ Blues

Week 1: Starting the month off with a high note, we welcome Zach Brass from Boston as our Special Guest Instructor. In this lesson, we will explore the possibilities of expressing Ballroomin’ Blues in an open connection. Providing new base movements of Zach-like turns, stretches, and modes of travelling, we will challenge you to layer and add your own character to the dance in order to express how you hear the music.

Weeks 2-4: The rest of October we’ll be working on connection technique with Adam and Briana! They’ll be focused on close embrace variations and shaping, and will explore all the things you can do within this cozy space!

Taught By: Adam Wilkerson & Briana McIntire (With special guest instructors Zach Brass & Krystal Wilkerson 10/5!)

How To Get Better As A Dancer – Self Evaluation, Exploration & Practice Techniques

This month Joe, Kadie & Briana have teamed up to take you on a journey of exploration and self-discovery.  In this series we’re going to explore just how to go about getting better as a dancer (even if you don’t have a partner to practice with regularly!), we’ll dig into how to give and get feedback in healthy ways, show you different practice drills and exercises you can use to train,  and guide you through a simple and effective 9-point self-evaluation process that you can use whenever you want to check in on your own dancing and see what areas you still need to work on.   While this class will be mainly geared toward improving at Lindy Hop, you’ll be able to apply most of the skills you learn this month to improving at any dance style!
