New to swing dancing? Want to give it a try but don’t know where to start!? You’ve come to the right place!
Every Thursday we teach two different beginner classes inside the Flying Monkey theatre at the Lowe Mill! Classes start at 7:30 and go until 8:30. Then we open up the floor for social dancing and practice time! Best of all you never need to bring a partner!
Not sure which beginner class is best for you? Here’s what we suggest:
If You’ve Never Done Swing Dancing Before (Or It’s Been A While)
Try Our Swing Foundations Class
If you’ve never danced before, or you are just new to swing dancing, this is the class for you!
This class is set up to introduce you to the fundamentals of swing dancing and runs continuously every month. So you can drop in any Thursday you like and jump right in without missing a thing or needing any previous experience at all!
Each week in this introductory class we’ll go over:
- Getting your body in sync with the music and finding the swing rhythm.
- Learning the basic 6-count swing footwork.
- Learning how to partner with a lead/follow.
- Learning how to move around the floor with our partner.
- 1-2 Foundational moves (these rotate from week to week)
Students are encouraged to participate in the foundations series for at least 2-3 weeks before moving onto the cores series classes. However, students are welcome to keep taking the foundations class as many times as they like until they feel they have fully grasped all the information and are comfortable to move forward into our Core series of classes.
If You’ve Done Some Swing Dancing Previously
Try Our Core Classes
If you’ve done a bit of swing dancing before and feel comfortable with all the information listed in our Swing Foundations Class then you might be ready for our Core classes! Unlike our Swing Foundations class where you can drop in any time, our Core classes are a progressive series of classes that build in difficulty from week to week with the first class of the series starting on the 1st Thursday of every month.
These classes are designed to build on the basics you already know from your foundations class, refine your technique and partner connection, teach you a variety of new moves to add to your dance vocabulary and help you explore a variety of new swing dance genres!
