March 2nd-4th 2018 • Huntsville, AL

Hello local Balboa instructor buddies! This workshop was created just for you!

Right now Bal is really taking root in the region and we want to do all we can to help encourage it’s growth! We think one of the best ways we can do that is by edifying our local balboa instructors, giving them all the tools they need to succeed and making sure they are getting the support they need.  That’s where this workshop comes in!

When Joe and I first started teaching local Bal classes here in Huntsville, we had no idea what we were doing, so we sat down with David Rehm at The Experiment and he went over some basic pedagogy with us, how he structures his beginner classes, the order he teaches moves in and why, and some basic exercises he uses with students and it made a HUGE difference in the success of our local classes.

So when we were kicking around the idea of hosting a Balboa pedagogy and teacher training weekend, we knew David was the perfect person for the job!

Because we want this to be about edifying YOU, David will be tailoring the workshop specifically to YOUR questions and areas of interest.

To start with we’ll go over things like:

• Key Concepts/Language For Teaching Balboa
• Ideas For How To Order/Structure Your Balboa Class or Series For Greater Success
• How To Teach Core Balboa Mechanics & Avoid Common Pitfalls

Then we’ll move onto the customized/interactive content David will help curate based on your areas of interest!

NOTE: While this workshop will include a lecture element, it is also designed to be highly interactive and discussion based.  Attendees will have the opportunity to ask anything they want about teaching, discuss specific difficulties they have encountered and generally pick David’s brain on any advice/wisdom he has from his 15 years as a full-time international Balboa instructor.

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE! In addition to the pedagogy and teacher training with David, we’ll also be hosting 3 dances over the course of the weekend where we can relax, get to know one another better and generally geek out about dancing together!

In  addition, David will be available for private lessons on Sunday and Joe and I will be hosting a discussion on organizing/running local balboa practice groups (going over all the tips and tricks we’ve learned over the last 4 years from running our little group here in Huntsville).

*Due to the nature of this workshop, space will be limited to a 35 person maximum UPDATE: Due to overwhelming interest we have booked a larger venue and can now hold a 50 person maximum*
